Cap Malheureux has a very beautiful beach made attractive by its lukewarm water. The beach is very popular. Tourists who pass by Cap Malheureux cannot refrain from stopping a while in the vicinity of the church Notre Dame Auxiliatrice to contemplate the beauty of the sea. A magnificent panorama unveils itself there and then: the waves kiss the shore and the islets of the North cut their proud silhouettes far away. That makes a nice snap!
The historical landing of the British in 1810 in the North took place at Cap Malheureux. According to legend, the corpse of Virginie was swept to the beach of Cap Malheureux after the wreck of the St. Geran in 1744.
According to Rene Le Juge de Segrais, Cap Malheureux earned its name from the shipwreck of the vessel Saint Geran which broke on the reefs off Amber Island, nearby. |
