The village draws its name from a rich landower of the 19th century, Charles Pereybere. The latter held land in Grand Bay. Charles Pereybere wrote ‘Feuilletons Creoles.’

The public beach of Pereybere is one of the most popular of the north. The village attracts holidaymakers and tourists.
