Molucque Reede (Oyster Bay) was the first name given to Tamarin by the Dutch. The French called it Bras de Mer du Tamarin. The region had many tamarind trees at that time.
Today, Tamarin is known for its old people’s home, the ‘Cheshire Home’ its hotel and its ‘Maison de Pecheurs.’ Surfing can be practiced all year round. Also forming part of the landscape of Tamarin are its quadrilateral salt pans made of stones and its ark-shaped bridge. |
